about

Verse one talks about the theme of heaven again. The chorus refers to the character of Forest House Part 1, who still surfaces daily in my life, whether physically, in thought, or in conversation.
The port town cabin is another forest house that symbolizes a heaven on earth, a gated community that accepts me. Northwest as in Pacific Northwest, because of the massive folk scene in Seattle and Portland. I go on to describe some of the imagery of the ideal life in the port town. "but all my best dreams have ended so abrupt, most nights sleep can't come fast enough." This explains that even this version of my own earthly heaven is not going to happen for me.

lyrics

And I look better from farther away
Rattling and lock picking unsuccessfully
I tried to fit my tiny frame through the gate
But the pearl inlays were meant to keep me away

You surface in the pockets of everyday
Couldn't keep well enough away

And when our family tree does fall, I won't be around
But I never meant to break branches or cut any down
But it is turning brown and dying on its own
And when spring comes I don't think leaves will be regrown

You surface in the pockets of everyday
Couldn't keep well enough away

Port town in the waves crest
Port town cabin in the northwest
Opens its gates to me
My earthly body

Pour some coffee and stare out for a cup
Lay in bed until the day has woken up
But all my best dreams have ended so abrupt
Most nights sleep can't come fast enough
